Terms of Service

1. Description of Service

Chicago Lapping Co (the "Service") operates as a lead-generation and coordination platform. The Service does not itself operate a laboratory, machine shop, or production facility. Quote requests submitted through the Service are routed to independent third-party providers ("Service Providers") that perform the actual lapping, inspection, and certification work. Chicago Lapping Co facilitates the introduction and coordination between you and one or more Service Providers; it does not perform the underlying services and does not act as the employer or principal of any Service Provider.

2. Work Performed by Independent Providers

Lapping work, surface finishing, inspection, and any related deliverables are performed by Service Providers operating their own equipment, facilities, and quality systems. Each Service Provider is solely responsible for the work it performs, including process selection, tolerance attainment, on-time delivery, and certification of results. Any contract for the actual performance of work is formed directly between you and the Service Provider that issues a quote.

3. Vetting and No Warranty

Chicago Lapping Co reviews Service Providers against criteria including process capability, geographic coverage, and quality-management posture. This review is intended to improve match quality and is not a guarantee. Chicago Lapping Co makes no warranty, express or implied, regarding the workmanship, accuracy, tolerance attainment, timeliness, or fitness for any particular purpose of any work performed by a Service Provider. Any warranty, express or implied, is provided by the Service Provider directly and is governed by its own terms.

4. No Service Agreement With Chicago Lapping Co

Submitting a quote request through this Service does not create a service agreement with Chicago Lapping Co. The Service is provided "as is" and "as available." Your service agreement, if any, is formed with the Service Provider you accept a quote from. Chicago Lapping Co is not a party to that agreement and disclaims liability for its performance.

5. Customer Responsibility

You are responsible for the accuracy of information you submit, including drawings, tolerance targets, lot sizes, material specifications, and any regulatory requirements applicable to your project. You are responsible for confirming, with the Service Provider, that the work scope and certification requirements meet your needs before authorizing work.

6. Industry-Specific Disclaimer

Lapping and surface-finishing work is provided for general industrial application. The Service is not a replacement for industry-specific certification or qualification of components used in regulated environments — aerospace AS9100 program qualification, medical device regulatory clearance, semiconductor qualification, and similar — which must be coordinated directly with the Service Provider and the relevant regulatory body.

7. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Chicago Lapping Co, its officers, employees, and affiliates shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits or revenue, arising from your use of the Service, from any introduction to a Service Provider, or from any work performed by a Service Provider. Chicago Lapping Co's aggregate liability for any claim arising from the Service shall not exceed one hundred U.S. dollars (USD 100).

8. Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Chicago Lapping Co from and against any claim, demand, loss, or damage arising from (a) your submission of inaccurate or unauthorized information, (b) your dispute with a Service Provider, (c) your violation of these terms, or (d) your violation of any applicable law or the rights of a third party.

9. Intellectual Property

The Service, its content, branding, and underlying technology are the property of Chicago Lapping Co or its licensors. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works from any portion of the Service without prior written consent, except for routine use of the quote request functionality for its intended purpose. Drawings, specifications, and other materials you submit remain your property; you grant Chicago Lapping Co and the matched Service Provider a limited license to use those materials solely to respond to and fulfill your request.

10. Acceptable Use

You agree to use the Service only for legitimate quote requests for work you have the right to request. You agree not to submit false information, abuse the Service through automated submissions, attempt to access non-public areas, or interfere with the Service's operation.

11. Third-Party Links

The Service may include links to third-party websites or resources. Chicago Lapping Co does not control those resources and is not responsible for their content, privacy practices, or availability.

12. Modifications

Chicago Lapping Co may update these terms from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the Effective Date above. Continued use of the Service after a change indicates acceptance of the revised terms.

13. Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Illinois, without regard to conflict-of-law provisions. Any dispute arising under these terms shall be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Cook County, Illinois, and you consent to the jurisdiction of those courts.
