What Chicago Lapping Co Does
Chicago Lapping Co provides contract precision lapping for industrial, aerospace, semiconductor, and medical buyers across Illinois, Wisconsin & Indiana. Work is performed under documented process cards aligned with ISO 9001:2015 controls. Buyers see one point of contact, one quote, and one delivery.
How a Quote Request Is Processed
A drawing or part description arrives via the quote form or by direct call. The request is reviewed against the consolidated process list — single- and double-sided lapping, flat lapping, spherical and ball lapping, mechanical-seal and silicon-wafer lapping, hand and machine lapping, taper-shoulder-bore lapping, and production lapping. Equipment, scope, and lead time are confirmed against the part before the quote is issued.
The buyer receives the quote — pricing, tolerances, lead time — within one business day. Approval kicks off scheduling, inspection plan, and per-lot certification on the production side.
Lapping Processes Covered
Coverage spans flat, cylindrical, and spherical geometries; single-sided and double-sided machine modes; hand-finished prototype work; and continuous production lapping with documented controls. Equipment ranges from bench-mounted machines for small lots to large-carrier double-sided machines for batch work on hard, brittle, or dissimilar materials.

Standards and Tolerances
Work is performed by ISO 9001:2015-aligned shops with documented process cards, calibrated interferometer plates for in-process flatness checks, and per-lot travel sheets that record abrasive type, plate selection, pressure profile, and inspection results. Flatness targets at one light band (~11.6 µin / 0.3 µm) are routine; sub-micron parallelism is held on planetary fixtures with matched carriers.
Industries Served
Programs range across aerospace components, semiconductor wafer and chuck finishing, medical device sealing faces, mechanical-seal manufacture, hydraulic and instrumentation valve seats, optical balls, precision tooling, and contract-manufacturing programs requiring recurring releases.
What to Expect From a Quote Request
Quotes returned within one business day cover the process recommendation, achievable flatness and Ra, lead time, and pricing. For recurring releases, quotes include a process card draft and an inspection plan that travels with subsequent lots.
